Cree-connected LED bulbs produce high-quality, soft white (2700K) light that looks and lights more like a light bulb that can be controlled from anywhere. Simply install the bulbs and compatible hubs, synchronize with the applicable apps, and start using iOS or Android devices to control lighting settings. Compatible with multiple home automation systems, Cree connected LED bulbs can work with Wink, SmartThings, WeMo links or any other ZigBee certification center. Once installed, you can easily dim or brighten the lights to the perfect state, arrange for automatic lighting at the start of the day, or turn on the lights to increase safety when you are not at home, all of which can be operated with the palm of your hand.

To help consumers understand the energy efficiency of light bulbs, the Energy Independence and Security Act legislation requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to change the current labeling requirements for all medium-sized universal LED bulbs. Lighting fact labels help consumers decide whether to buy based on the brightness (lumens) and operating costs of the bulb, rather than the number of Watts. Tags are an industry tool that helps buyers evaluate product performance with manufacturers ‘ claims.

The European Union will ban the use of halogen bulbs from September 1, 2018, encouraging European consumers to switch to more energy-efficient light-emitting diodes.

According to the Guardian, “capsule, linear and low-pressure” halogens will still be allowed to be used in oven lamps, and stores can sell their existing halogen bulbs. But the whole of Europe is heading green: Once the ban takes effect, classic halogen bulbs may no longer be on the market.

The policy was first announced in 2009 and the phase-out of halogen will be completed in September 2016, but the measure has been delayed until this year in order to give consumers more time to replace light bulbs, EcoWatch reported.

LEDs are more expensive upfront but consume five times as much as halogen and tend to live longer, according to the European Commission. The EC also said that switching to LEDs would save about 115 euros (about $133 trillion) over the life of the bulb and recoup costs within a year. The company added: “Savings will increase further by 2018 as LED prices fall and LED performance improves. ”

At the same time, it will save environmental costs. According to CNN, Climate Action and Energy, a European Commission spokesman said the light-emitting diode switch would “save 15.2 million tonnes of CO² emissions by 2025.” ”

“That’s the equivalent of about 2 million people a year,” she added. “This is a significant contribution to the response to climate change. ”

Despite these benefits, some people feel that the upfront cost of LEDs is too high.

“The EU’s ban on the use of halogen bulbs is wrong because consumers will suffer economically, while the poorest are often the groups most affected by such policies,” Jonathan Block, a spokesman for Ukip in the European Parliament, told the Guardian. “Consumers should have the freedom to choose light bulbs and should not be imposed by the EU,” he asked. ”
